Dr. Kim, the following information and attachments are forwarded to individuals requesting to be Observers at MDACC. Please be in contact with me when the medical students have been selected to be Observers at MDACC. Dr. Edward Kim will sponsor them in his department, Thoracic/ Head and Neck.
I have received your recent request to be an Observer at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. To be an Observer, an application process is required. Please refer to the attachments below for the application (Observer%20Appointment%20Application.pdf) and related required documentation (Observer master document.doc). After the completed packet has been received by me, I will seek approval from the department of your area of interest. After departmental approval has been received, an appointment form will be approved by the program director and Head, Division of Cancer Medicine then forwarded to Trainee and Alumni Affairs. From this point, it will take approximately 30-45 days for the Institutional approval. Please do not make travel arrangements until such a time you have received a letter of invitation from Dr. Stephen Tomosovic, Trainee Support Services. I will be the liaison for the process and can be reached via e-mail (bccorte@mdanderson.org) on Tuesday/Wednesday of each week.
Being able to communicate in English is essential to be an Observer at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. This will enable you to speak with many physicians, nursing and support staff which will enrich your educational experience. While in the clinical setting, you will be required to wear a white laboratory coat. These, unfortunately, will not be furnished by M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
